REVIEW FROM GATES OF GORE .COM
Chainsaw Sally Director: JimmyO Burrill Cast: April Monique Burrill, Mark Redfield, David R. Calhoun, Kristen Hudson, Alec Joseph, Gunnar Hansen, Herschell Gordon Lewis As children, Sally and her brother Ruby witnessed their parents brutal murder, but now it's 15 years later and Sally just seems like a really quiet librarian, but don't let that fool you, at night she's a kick ass killer with her own axe to grind or should I say chainsaw saw. Move over Leatherface, Sally is brandishing the chainsaw now...everyone better LOOK OUT!!! Most of the times when I write reviews, I usually start out by talking about what I really love about the particular film, but I'm going to change this around a bit. The first thing that needs to be pointed out is the amazing performance by the awesome April Monique Burrill, who portrays the chainsaw saw wielding killer, CHAINSAW SALLY. April gives an outstanding performance and she just kicks so much ass. I can't wait to see more from April, she has beome one of my favorite actresses. Not only are we treated to such an amazing performace by April, we also get to see the greats Gunnar Hansen and Herschell Gordon Lewis in cameo roles. Everyone should know Gunnar from being Leatherface in the original cult classic, THE TEAXS CHANISAW MASSACRE, so it was so incredibly cool to see him in this film, even though it was for a very short time. Now Herschell Gorodon Lewis is no stranger to cult horror, as he directed such films as BLOOD FEAST, 2000 MANIACS and COLOR ME BLOOD RED. I have been a fan of Herschell's for many years and you usually don't see him get to act in anything, so I was really thrilled to actually see him perform in a film. CHAINSAW SALLY has what every horror film should have...great acting and dialogue, lots of bloody mayhem and one of the most painful and twisted endings I've ever seen. Also, I should add that this film also shows clips from other horror films that should be checked out as well. You'll get to know what these films are when going through the credits. I missed out on actually seeing CHAINSAW SALLY on the big screen, since it's been screened at a few horror conventions, that would've been a real kick. I really hate being stuck all the way down here, but what can you do, right? Anyway, I'm just glad that I was given the opportunity to check this film out because it is absolutely the best independent horror film, hell, it's the best horror film made in 2004. JimmyO Burrill kicks it into gear with CHAINSAW SALLY, a film that shouldn't be missed if your like depended on it. I highly recommend it. My Rating: 9/10 Visit Gates of Gore |
