| REVIEW FROM HORROR WATCH by The B-Queen Meet the girl of your screams. When Sally was a little girl her parents were brutally murdered by psychos. As her father lay dying he told her to always take care of her little brother. Now all grown up Sally is a small town librarian by day and a crazy cannibalistic tool wielding killer by night. When land developers and city officials threaten to take over the land she and her brother live on Sally must oil up her chainsaw to make sure no one disturbs their idyllic lifestyle of killing and watching Count Gore on TV. Chainsaw Sally is a really fun movie that I recommend to everyone. April Monique Burril is excellent as Sally; the character deserves a series of movies. Alec Joseph, who plays her cross dressing brother Ruby is hilarious, I loved him. I'd love to see Sally and Ruby take a road trip. The gore, while plentiful, often took a backseat to the story. A surprising amount of time was spent on the back story, plot and character development. You don't often see that in low budget indies; it really brought the movie up to a whole other level. Speaking of gore, this film had one of the ickiest gore scenes I've seen in a while involving a bottle of acid (?) and a bucket. I don't want to give too much away but imagine standing up and drinking acid, well it would have to come out somewhere right? Showing up in cameo roles are Herschell Gordon Lewis and Gunnar Hansen. As a total bonus we get to see Mr. Hansen briefly wield a chainsaw. I got a little glow from that one. Since Sally and Ruby are big horror fans there are quite a few name drops and tributes that are lots of fun to watch. The rockabilly soundtrack kicked ass and really helped you get into the movie. The movie also featured really excellent flashbacks filmed in an old school projection style complete with spots and flickers. Chainsaw Sally is written and directed by JimmyO Burril, April Burril's husband. How much fun is this couple? I want to go trick or treating at their house on Halloween. 7 out of 10 times I cheered Sally on for killing someone over bad spelling. Visit Horror Watch |
